First we turned in the Chapter 7, lesson 1 worksheet from yesterday. Then, we watched a short video about the Aryan Migrations into India on Edmodo. Then, students completed a worksheet that drew from Chapter 7, lesson 1 and 2. The answers are found in the textbook starting on page 227. This lesson covers the Aryan migration and the culture that was brought to India by those people.

We reviewed Chapter 7, lesson 2 in class today. Particularly how the Aryan migration of 1500 B.C. brought new people into India that brought a different culture to India including their language of Sanskrit, their religion that became Hinduism and the social classes with the caste system. We analyzed a passage from the Bhagavad Gita (Hindu holy book) together and the homework will ask students to analyze a passage from the Bhagavad Gita on their own. It is a difficult task but the challenge is great practice!!!

Thursday/Friday, 1/14/16 & 1/15/16
For the first 15 minutes of class, we went through the Bhagavad Gita primary source that students did for homework. It was a TOUGH READ! Specifically, I needed to help them know that austerity is living simply like monks do rejecting material possessions or wealth and spending most of their energy praying, reading their holy books and focusing on their religion. Secondly, it was important in the passage for them to understand that the "fruit of action" meant the benefit or reward or result of someone's actions. For example, Krishna said to DO charity but don't do it for the benefit it gives you (makes you happy, to get good karma, or to feel great). DO charity because it is your duty in life to be kind, giving, selfless.
Then, we completed a worksheet of notes on Chapter 7, lesson 3 and learned all about Buddhism. When students were done with the worksheet, I had them watch a few videos on Buddhism that I posted on Edmodo. I also checked Tuesday and Wednesday's homework assignments.
