IN CLASS... Monday, 11/16/15

Class took notes on Chapter 4, lesson 2 today. We learned about the Assyrian and New Babylonian Empires and the great things they did. We also reviewed the Empires in order starting with the world's first empire, the Akkadians under Sargon I. Below are the Empires of Mesopotamia in order with the most important leader:
Akkadian Empire - Sargon I
Babylonian Empire - Hammurabi
Assyrian Empire - Ashurbanipal
New Babylonians or Chaldeans - NebuchadnezzarII
Persian Empire - Cyrus then Darius
Tonight's homework is to Finish the Google Slides that we started last week about last week's Chapter 4, lesson 1 activity. As a reminder, here's what to do:
Students are to create a Google Slide about Chapter 4, lesson 1 using their Chapter 4, lesson 1 activity. We had 5 stations and students had to create one or two slides about each station -- Biography, Laws, Legacy, Hammurabi. I'll repost the activity here in case anyone did not get it. Then click Share and share it to my email address at [email protected]
Make sure to be informative and include great pictures and commentary to teach about lesson 1.

TUESDAY, 11/17/15Today, we worked on an Assyria and New Babylonia worksheet that drew information from the World History books that I have in class. I posted the pages from that book on Edmodo (see link below) so that students could access them from home if need be (finish for homework).
In this fact finding mission, we learned more about ferocious and cruel Assyrian Army and the wondrous buildings of Babylon that King Nebuchadnezzar II had built. |
WEDNESDAY 11/18/15Students took video notes on the app Video Not.es on their Google Drive today. The video that we watched contested the accepted view of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon which has never been found. It was interesting lesson into the study of the Hanging Gardens and puts forth viable evidence that maybe Sennacherib, the Assyrian king built some gardens that may have been the ones that we consider the Hanging Gardens.
You'll find the video below and it will help us be thoughtful in our research tonight in answering the question on Edmodo. |
THURS/FRIDAYToday, we reviewed all the empires of Mesopotamia in a Google Doc note. Then, students completed a worksheet that guided them thru the last Mesopotamian Empire we'll be studying, the Persians in Chapter 4, lesson 3.
Once students finished, we began a project called ABC's of Mesopotamia. We'll be finding words from Chapter 3 or 4 to fit our ABC's....for example A is for Assyria and so on. Then students will write a sentence for each letter in the alphabet about that corresponding term. Extra credit if you can make it RHYME but you don't have to. Once you finish all the letters, we have lots of creative choices to really make your project ROCK!!!! We'll record them on Garageband and create an iMovie slideshow, or create a Book Creator on the iPad where you illustrate each letter and record your voice, or record on Garageband and possibly do a green screen video!!!! Can't wait to see these creative projects come to life! ![]()
