IN CLASS... Monday, 10/5/2015 |
Today was our boot camp for READING...in class we discussed How to identify what the text is doing. Look for the big text in our textbook. Watch for large red text or highlighted vocabulary and quickly and effectively identify what the book is saying. Above all, don't be afraid of RE-READING to make sure that you UNDERSTAND what you are reading!!!!
We also talked about the importance of being PERSISTENT. Your best efforts are important but being able to work through problems and even struggle a little to overcome difficulties will serve you well :) Persistence is a difference maker aand will help you succeed in class, in sports, and life in general. Don't be afraid to sustain your efforts and be proud of your hard work!!!!!! Here is the PowerPoint from today and a link to our homework on Edmodo tonight. |
TUESDAY, 10/6/15
Tuesday and it's time for more writing practice. We talked about the Agricultural Revolution a little bit and then we examined a comic strip about this time.
Students wrote a 6 to 7 sentence Explanatory Essay about the Agricultural Revolution. Some chose to do a compare/contrast about the hunter gatherers/farmers but most students will define the Agricultural Revolution.
Then, we exchanged papers so that another student could help check for errors and help them improve their essay. Then, students revised their essay and completed a rewrite of their essay. If they didn't finish, that rewrite is their Chapter 2 Review homework. Ideally, students will come to class with 3 complete versions of this essay. The last one is okay to do on Google Drive :)

WEDNESDAY, 10/7/15
We reviewed Chapter 2 by creating a SHORT TIMELINE of Early Man. Then students completed a chart showing SPRITE GAL by drawing pictures/text about the Agricultural Revolution time period with SPRITE GAL in mind. For example: Society -- students might draw a picture of Social Classes as represented in a Complex Village...people had specialized jobs and were grouped by the job they had. If they didn't finish, the rest is homework and study hard for tomorrow's Chapter 1 and 2 Test.
Make sure and go to http://www.classzone.com to review for the test. They have cool review stuff there!

THURS/FRIDAY
We took our Chapter 1 and 2 test today on Edmodo and students got their results right away. We did have an essay question on Edmodo that had a video to watch as a companion to the essay. We got a lot of WRITING practice in preparation for this question and our students did great improving their writing this week!!!! I'm so proud of the work we accomplished on this skill. As you know, we'll be practicing a lot more writing in every discipline :)
If your student is absent, please feel free to have your student take both parts of the exam under your supervision and HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!
After the test, students began work on their IRRIGATION song. It is a review of Chapters 1 and 2 to the tune Celebration by Kool and the Gang. We'll be recording these on Monday as a wrap up of these chapters. Hopefully we'll have some creative masterpieces to share with you on the website! I'm reposting the video we watched for the essay and the Irrigation worksheet below.
I-R-R-I-G-A-T-I-O-N times, come on!!!!!
