MONDAY, 11/7/16Today, we took Cornell Notes on Chapter 3, lesson 1. We answered the Essential Questions from the lesson and began to understand how the first civilization in the world came about in the area of Mesopotamia. We specifically understood how the river systems of the Tigris and Euphrates made it possible for farming to happen in Southern Mesopotamia on a larger scale and develop into the city-states of Sumer: the world's first civilization.
Tuesday, 11/8/16We took Cornell Notes on Chapter 3, lesson 2 and discussed what factors have to happen to have a "CIVILIZATION". We focused on the 5 traits of civilization and the fact that Sumer became that first civilization we spoke about. The homework was to fill out the Mesopotamia Map I gave them but they don't have to do the questions on the map.

Wednesday, 11/9/16We are studying the Invention of Writing today. Students drew a filmstrip covering each step in the process of the Sumerians inventing writing. I'll post the worksheet below and we got the information from my World History books in the classroom so I'll post that page here as well.

Thursday 11/10We watched a couple videos today that I posted on Edmodo. These were all about Sumer and the beginning of agriculture, their inventions and daily life leading up to the invention of writing. Students learned to take video notes on the Google extension called VideoNot.es which they added when clicking NEW in their Google Drive and then clicking on Connect More Apps and searching Video Notes.
I checked the homework for the entire week and after watching these 2 videos, we did a Kahoot quiz game as a check for understanding :) Have a great 3 day weekend! |
