We spoke briefly about WHY we STUDY HISTORY and the importance of facts, evidence, and proof and analyzing primary sources to get to the best ideas about history.  Then, we completed an exercise and review of Chapter 1.  Students should finish that worksheet for homework if they didn't finish in class.

Today, we're going to try out a few learning groups...

Mr. Nelson will assign you to one of these groups:
  1. LATITUDE AND LONGITUDE - explain how these work and some creative ways to remember what these lines do!  Include very detailed pictures and information on how they help us!
  2. SPRITE GAL - EXPLAIN what we use these for and a quick description of each concept
  3. PRIMARY SOURCES, SECONDARY SOURCES, and ORAL HISTORY - very important to explain each of these and why we use them to tell history...you can even talk about the importance of evidence as we study history
  4. EARLY HOMINIDS - explain the story of EARLY PEOPLE and use some of the hominids we talked about and WHY we know about them...hint - talk about Lucy and the Leakey family
  5. BC and AD -- explain how this timing system works and include BCE and CE as well.  How can we remember this?  Be creative with this so we know it well!
  6. WHY STUDY HISTORY - use the National Geographic book to get more info on this GREAT QUESTION and explain in DETAIL what we should understand as we approach a year of learning history.
  7. The STONE AGE - use page 32 of your textbook to EXPLAIN the 3 phases of the Stone Age and what people were doing at the time.  Be specific, be creative, and pay attention to what CHANGES occurred during each period
