Today, we are taking another trip up or down the Nile River in Egypt.  Students will use a worksheet to compile information from our Chapter 5, lesson 1 reading to understand Egyptian Geography.  Then, they will tell a story about their own travel as a trader as they boat on the Nile and inform the reader about what they experience, see, and hear along the way.

Use the below worksheet to guide you on your Journey!

This is Monday Night's homework if you don't finish in class.

HOMEWORK FOR THOSE ABSENT OVER THANKSGIVING:  please finish the Egypt Map and watch the Mystery of the Nile and take Notes, you should have those done by Wednesday.

Today, we'll start to look at Chapter 5, lesson 2.  Please READ the entire lesson and write out the Vocabulary Terms and Definitions and draw a picture for each term on a sheet of paper.

Today we read a handout about Hieroglyphs and the Rosetta Stone together in jigsawed groups.  Then, we began creating a filmstrip story about the mystery of hieroglyphs until the Rosetta Stone was found and the code was cracked making their written language understandable.

Students will tell the story with a caption and picture for each of the 8 boxes on the filmstrip.  They can tell the story in whichever order they please but it must make sense :)

Thurs/Fri 11/30 & 12/1

Today, we finished our filmstrip on Hieroglyphs and the Rosetta Stone in the first 15 minutes of class.  Then, we began a new project on Ancient Egyptian Religion.

NEW PROJECT:  We are creating a poster that focuses on the following question below.  Please write that question on the poster and provide drawings and information that will ANSWER the focus question.

FOCUS QUESTION:  What are the Ancient Egyptian beliefs about death, the afterlife, mummification, and the roles of different deities.

Words and Concepts to include in your poster:
  • names and roles of at least 5 gods/deities
  • Egyptian view of LIFE AND DEATH
  • polytheism
  • afterlife
  • mummification and embalming process
  • Judgment of the Dead
  • the link between RELIGION and GOVERNMENT
